The Adafruit FT232H USB breakout board is the Swiss army knife for serial communications, with access to SPI, I2C, serial UART, JTAG and others. This means your laptop or PC can talk directly to displays, sensors and other devices you would normally interface to through an Arduino, Raspberry Pi or similar gadget. You can also program it to have 12 x GPIO lines opening more possibilities. When you add all this to the Adafruit Python GPIO library you have a fantastic development and debugging tool. When you're using a device for the first time, this clever little board could save your sanity, test and debug your code on a PC or laptop then plug the working code into your microcontroller. The board is programmed as a USB to serial UART link by default but it can also be placed into MPSSE (Multi Protocol Synchronous Serial Engine) mode giving you access to all the other serial communications protocols. Adafruit supply a tutorial and their Python library which is free to download.

Supplied as a fully assembled board with 2 x 10-pin 0.1in. pitch male header strips for you to solder on as required.
