This Arduino shield is a kit that is a simple and effective way of adding quality audio to an electronic project. The kit can play up to 22kHz, 12-bit uncompressed audio files of any length and is easy to make, with all necessary parts supplied. An onboard DAC, filter and op-amp provide the high quality output. Audio files are read off a SD/MMC card and volume can be controlled via an onboard thumb-wheel potentiometer.
The kit is easy to construct and only requires the addition of an Arduino project, SD card and speaker/headphones. Included with the kit is an Arduino library that enables the simple transfer and management of sound files. Audio is played asynchronously as an interrupt, so the Arduino can perform tasks while the audio is playing.
Suggested projects for this shield include: portable audio player, talking clock, interface for the sight-impaired, doorbells, security system, and many more.
