RF Solutions puts wireless connectivity into everyone’s hands – from remote control systems for home automation to factory line IoT applications. RF Solutions products facilitate the creation of domestic and industrial projects within the 433MHz and 868MHz radio frequencies.
The RF Solutions range includes Antennas, modems, radio modules and all the elements of remote control systems – transmitters, transceivers, receivers, modems and telemetry modules.
Antennas
Antennas are crucial components in projects which require the transmission and reception of electromagnetic waves. With a range that includes GSM, GPS and WiFi antennas, RF Solutions Antennas are available in a variety of different frequencies and forms, and can be implemented for use in telemetry projects, instrumentation, medical and logistics, and for use by aerospace and military corporations.
Modems
We stock a select range of RF Solutions modems, including modem shields for use with the Arduino platform, giving users access to remote control functionality. Possible uses include one-to-one and multi-node wireless links in applications such as car and building security, EPOS, inventory tracking, remote industrial process monitoring and computer networking. Because of their small size and low power requirements these modules are ideal for use in portable, battery-powered applications such as hand-held terminals.
433MHz Modules
433MHz is one of the two main frequency bands for remote control applications in the UK and Europe, used widely in control applications. It is estimated that and RF Solutions designs a wide range of products for 433MHz. They include transmitters, transceivers and telemetry modules for integration in devices such as key fobs, controlling applications including car and building security, EPOS and inventory tracking and remote monitoring of industrial processes.
868MHz Modules
868MHz is the other major licence-free wireless frequency band in Europe. Transmitting over shorter distances and experiencing less interference than 433MHz, it is used widely in security and fire alarm systems. Conservative estimates that there are around 33million 868MHz receivers in situ show the popularity and demand for transmission on this band. The 868MHz RF Solutions modules available at Rapid include telemetry, transceiver, receiver and modem modules able to operate over various ranges, while modules in the LoRA protocol facilitates long-range transmissions over 16km with low power consumption.
RF/Coaxial Adaptors
Stop your project from grinding to a halt by having the exact RF adapter or coaxial connector you need. We stock a wide range of RF Solutions RF adapters and coaxial connectors that enable you to connect to every commonly used type of input. Choose from the industry standard connection types in male and female – BNC, N, SMA and TNC.
RF Cable Assemblies
RF Solutions offer an extensive range of pre-assembled, fixed length, standard cable assemblies. Standard assemblies are employed in a variety of commercial and industrial applications that require standard configurations or lengths. Cables are available with most commercially available RF connector series mounted to popular flexible cables as well as semi-rigid conformable (hand formable) cable.
Applications
How communicating on the 433MHz RF band maintains the quality of harvested crops
The value of a stored grain harvest depends on keeping it in good condition, free from spoilage. Pest damage and moisture levels are the prime considerations. A silo or storage unit regulated to a temperature of 10°C and 14% or less humidity is the aim of any sensor or monitoring system.
Robydome, an agricultural process control solutions provider based in Suffolk, found that wireless delivered a viable alternative for its grain monitoring systems. The wireless sensor system that Robydome has developed and manufactured uses RF Solutions 433MHz transceiver modules in an innovative cost saving solution. "We had used temperature probes in our products for many years but in a cabled configuration", said Steven Monk of Robydome. "This costs time and money in installation and is also time consuming moving cables when emptying the store."
“Wireless became the obvious solution. Using the RF Solutions ALPHA-TRX433S Alpha FM 433MHz Transceiver Module SMD, which we could source from Rapid, integrated into a 2m or 3m lance with a temperature sensor in the tip, the need for any cabling is removed.”
The resulting product, Robydome's ROBYlink FreeLance, is a wireless digital temperature probe designed for semi-permanent sensing. The probes are inserted into the bulk grain and transmit temperature and moisture readings to the wireless receiver, which is linked to a connector box. Data is displayed on hand-held readers that can receive data from up to 32 probes at a time at a range of up to 100m.
