Stanley

Stanley is one of the world's oldest and most distinctive makers of hand tools. Originally there were two Stanleys: a bolt and door hardware manufacturing workshop founded by Frederick T. Stanley in Connecticut in 1843, and The Stanley Rule and Level Company, the brainchild of Frederick's cousin, Henry. In 1920, the two firms merged to become the famous Hand Tools Division of The Stanley Works.

The company still bears not only Frederick Stanley's name but also the spirit, enterprise and passion that drove him to succeed where others failed. Stanley is dedicated to testing, designing and improving their products to ensure quality and maximum functionality. In recent years Stanley have redesigned many of their classic hand tools, investing them with features that put them on a par with power products.

Stanley has always innovated in order to set their products apart and provide customers with tools they will love. Stanley designers have given us the Bailey plane, the Surform shaper and the PowerLock tape measure. But of course it is the fixed blade utility knife that has become the company's signature product. Walk into any hardware shop on the planet, ask for a Stanley knife and you will be speaking an international language.
