Newton's colour disc demonstrates the discovery, made by Newton, that white light is composed of all the spectral colours. By rotating a multi-coloured disc at high speed, the individual colours can be seen to merge into white.
The apparatus consists of a 175mm diameter multi-coloured disc mounted on a metal stand. The disc is driven by a belt connected to a driving wheel, fitted with a crank handle.
