01 March 2019 Question by: Rapid Customer | Product code: 70-0188
Q. Hi, Would this work okay with a mono speaker attached? Or would anything need to be considered if I was to do this?
A. Hi Graeme, thank you for your question. This could be used with a mono speaker.

04 July 2016 Question by: Rapid Customer | Product code: 70-0188
Q. If I wanted to change the volume via a potentiometer, where would be the best place to install it? Thanks
A. Hi Spencer, thank you for your question. A volume control is normally at the pre amp stage and this is a power amp only, the volume is controlled by the device connected to it. If you need to add one then circa a 47K lin before R2 and R3.

21 June 2016 Question by: Rapid Customer | Product code: 70-0188
Q. Hi, would I be able to easily adapt this kit so that there could be three speakers attached instead of two. And would this effect things like the voltage etc.??? Thanks
A. Hi Matt, thank you for your question. This is a stereo kit designed for two speakers adding a third could damage the output stage and this is not recommended.

18 November 2015 Question by: Rapid Customer | Product code: 70-0188
Q. Can you recommend a suitable heatsink for the TDA2009A chip?
A. Hi Debbie, thank you for your question. 50-5297 looks to be the closest option.

28 June 2014 Question by: Rapid Customer | Product code: 70-0188
Q. Can you connect two kits together?
A. Hi Kieran, thanks for your question. Unfortunately you cannot connect the two kits together.

29 April 2014 Question by: Rapid Customer | Product code: 70-0188
Q. Can you power this via a USB-power supply (5V) ?
A. Hi Victor. Thank you for your question. As USB 2.0 can only deliver around 500mA it will not be ideally suited to power this kit as it may damage the USB device it is plugged into.

10 April 2014 Question by: Rapid Customer | Product code: 70-0188
Q. Do you have a recommended enclosure for this unit?
A. Hi Tim. Thank you for your question. There are many different types suitable for the kit, although we do not have recommended enclosure 30-6270 would house the PCB and allow enough room for the external connections excluding your chosen speakers.

28 August 2013 Question by: Rapid Customer | Product code: 70-0188
Q. What is the lowest impedance speaker that this kit can drive?
A. Hi Gareth. Thank you for your question. The minimum speaker impedance would be 4 ohms per channel.

A. Hi Callum. Thank you for your question. A battery holder is included in this stereo amplifier kit.

Decent quality good value,

This is a really good little kit, quite easy to build, performs well and is good value. It's no frills - mine arrived in resealable plastic bags and the instructions were provided as a pdf download (no printed sheet), but the components were all decent quality and the PCB is well laid out and well made. You do need the instructions to find the component values because they’re not shown on the PCB. There’s no description of circuit operation but there is a circuit diagram Construction was pretty straightforward. The non-polarised capacitors were a little difficult to identify with certainty but a quick google check sorted it out (and there are only 5 of them, so it wasn’t hard to work out). A couple of capacitors aren’t shown in the parts list but they are shown, with their component values, in the circuit diagram. The biggest problem was that initially the solder didn’t flow well onto the pads on the PCB, but after a quick clean with a cotton bud soaked in white spirit it was fine. The board is quite small but has adequate room to work on, so if you’ve a steady hand it would even make a good first project. In use, the performance is surprisingly good. It’s not the highest of hifi, but has turned the stereo headphone output from a DAB receiver into a very acceptable workshop stereo radio (also plays music from my Android tablet) – it’s hooked up to a pair of 40W Visaton speakers I bought with it and produces more than enough volume for everyday use. Runs well off batteries (holder and connector provided), some hum from a cheap switch mode mains supply. Would buy again.
