The Adafruit VS1053 Codec + Micro SD Breakout is an SPI controlled mini audio player for your next project. It can play MP3, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, WMA, MIDI, FLAC and WAV stereo audio files directly from the onboard micro SD card holder with just a few SPI commands. There are also 8 x GPIO pins with 100kΩ pull downs you can use for LEDs, buttons, etc. This is an ideal board for those projects where your chosen microcontroller lacks the horse power to decode MP3 files.
In addition to its other functions the VS1053 chip also has a MIDI mode that will respond to serial MIDI data, behaving like a synth/drum machine with a wide range of built-in drum and sampled effects. It has a microphone input port for either a line input or a microphone to record compressed audio to the SD card. Thanks to a pair of 220µF capacitors on board you can drive headphones or a line-out to other audio equipment without problems.
Supplied as a fully assembled and tested decoder board, a PCB mount stereo headphone socket, plus strips of 0.1in. header pins for you to solder on as required. Adafruit provide a free tutorial and software examples to help you get the most out of this talented breakout board.
We supply a range of amplifier solutions, from chips to kits including some from Adafruit.
Micro-SD cards can be purchased separately should you require them.
*Customers looking to resell on eBay or Amazon should contact Adafruit directly.
