The Adafruit MCP4725 12-bit DAC breakout board is an ideal choice when your project needs analogue output but PWM isn't analogue enough. Simply attach the board to the I2C port on your microcontroller (MCU) and send the value of output voltage you want. Select either I2C address 0x62 or 0x63 or attach 2 x DAC boards to the same MCU. If your MCU supports 3.4Mbits per second Fast Mode I2C (not Arduino) then the output voltage can be updated at around 200kHz. It is 3 to 5V compatible and the output voltage will be rail to rail, i.e. between Gnd and Vcc. There's a handy EEPROM on the chip which let's you save configuration parameters and the last analogue value so the board can output the same voltage the next time power is applied. Adafruit supply a tutorial and free software library for the Arduino but it should be portable to any other MCU with I2C host.
Supplied as a fully assembled board plus a 1 x 6 strip of 0.1in. male header pins for you to solder as required.
*Customers looking to resell on eBay or Amazon should contact Adafruit directly.
