Intended as a superior replacement to the industry standard ICL7660, this monolithic CMOS voltage converter from Intersil has an extended operating supply to 12V, lower supply current, and requires no external diode.

The IC will produce a complementary negative output to the applied positive supply in the range 1.5V to 12V.

This little IC has got me out of trouble many times. I've designed for a 9V or 12V rail, and find I need some extra headroom - this is an easy way to get out of that problem. It's also a great device for powering op-amps from dual rails when you only have a single rail available. It'll work with any diodes, by Schottky types are best to minimise losses.
