The Velleman K8200 build-it-yourself 3D Printer Kit uses melted PLA Filament or ABS Filament (3mm plastic wire) to 'print' objects up to a maximum size of 20 x 20 x 20cm.
Objects are 'printed' by building up successive flat layers of plastic.
The printer is extremely fast, reliable and precise, even when printing at higher speeds. The K8200 is compatible with all free RepRap software and firmware: - please see below for recommended software. The printer is manufactured from aluminium profiles and is straightforward to assemble. It leaves room for you to freely modify the machine and customise it to your liking. The printer has a heated bed.

This is an advanced level constructional kit, please read the online Assembly Instructions for more details and tools required
The printer requires a computer (MAC, WIN or LINUX) and an internet connection to use the online manual and building instructions.
The PLA filament is a safe and non-toxic material and there are no known health or safety risks when used in 3D printers. If printing with ABS, only use the printer in a well-ventilated area. It is advisable to add a fume hood (with active carbon filtering for ductless extraction). Fume extraction is mandatory for use in offices, classrooms and the like. Never burn printer filament, toxic gasses and vapours will be generated if exposed to fire.
Q. so i buy the printer but what software do i need to produce say a image of my dog, can it do colours
A. Hi Liz. Thank you for your question. This printer runs on Repetier version 0.84 and up, different coloured filament is available here but it appears you can only print in one colour at a time.

Eagerly awaiting the delivery of my new 3d printer kit I thought I would get myself ready for the task ahead, I created a clean workspace and got all the correct tools (these are a must). delivery was fast after ordering on a Friday it arrived on the Monday ready for me to start assembling. All parts are very well labelled and of high quality and the build manual covers all aspects. For the assembly you do need some background knowledge of putting things together and soldering. It proves how easy it is to put together due to this kit being built by myself , a 17 year old college student . After about 25 hours assembly the printer was finished and there were no hiccups on the way, I definitely recommend taking your time assembling it so that you do not miss any parts and have to take it apart again. The print quality gets better the more you calibrate it, this takes some time so be patient. Also note that different colours of PLA require different temperatures, black being the lowest temperature. All in all its a great kit and couldn't be happier with the service rapid provided on packaging and delivering the item. Filament is also very cheap so I will be ordering some more very soon.
