The Raspberry Pi A+ is the latest makeover of the Raspberry Pi A and builds on the success of the B to B+ update with many of the same benefits. It now uses a micro-SD card which has a positive lock with a push-in, pop-out action. The number of GPIO pins has been increased from 26 to 40 with the specialist function pins staying in the same place (UART, I2C bus, SPI bus, I2S ). Peak power consumption has dropped from 300mA (model A) down to 200mA (model A+). Tests have shown this to be the least demanding of the four Pi models as it also beats the B+. The CPU (700MHz Broadcom SoC), graphics and memory (256Mbyte) are unchanged from the A retaining full software compatibility; if it ran on the A it will run on the A+. The audio now has its own dedicated low-noise power regulator which has improved the quality of the audio out.
By moving the composite video onto a TRRS jack the Raspberry Pi A+ now has a lower profile. It has been on a diet too, losing 20mm off its width and half its weight while adding four mounting holes making it ideal for small projects.
