This apparatus demonstrates the discovery, made by Newton, that white light is made up of seven individual colours. The apparatus consists of a pulley mounted on a metal stand. The seven-coloured disc is driven by a belt connected to a hand-driven wheel. When the disc is rotated fast, the eye is unable to distinguish between individual colours and perceives it as white.
